You are all here today to discuss the motion presented by the UN.
Before this discussion is over in 20 minutes I want everyone to have taken a decision if they want to participate or not in this motion. After 20 minutes I will announce that it is time for voting and everyone will officially announce their decision by pushing either the “Participate” or “Participate not” button below.
If you have any suggestion in changing or adding to the motion you officially declare your revised motion below on this page.
Year 3. Motion from UN, Water costs
An UN motion has been presented which suggests that Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will start to charge for their water. It is considered as a necessary step to reduce the rampant diversion from Syrdarja and Amudarja. The cost of water would be the industry that uses large amounts of production and manufacturing, while households still have access to water for free. This mean that cotton growers in the region will get a harder time but at the same time it can work as an incentive to use other less water-intensive crops or better cotton cultivation techniques.
At first I will give the word to UN to say just a few words about the benefits of this motion, after this the word is free.
