You are all here today to discuss the motion presented by Uzbekistan.
Before this discussion is over in 20 minutes I want everyone to have taken a decision if they want to participate or not in this motion. After 20 minutes I will announce that it is time for voting and everyone will officially announce their decision by pushing either the “Participate” or “Participate not” button below.
If you have any suggestion in changing or adding to the motion you officially declare your revised motion below on this page.
Year 5. Motion from Uzbekistan, change in agriculture techniques.
The water-intensive cotton cultivation in the region is about to drain the Aral Sea. A motion has been presented which suggests a re-education of farmers in the region. To reduce water consumption over a 10 year period would give the Aral Sea a chance to recover to a level that would allow more large-scale agriculture again. To compensate for production loss it is proposed that Russia and the UN will co-finance the operation and provide food and education.
At first I will give the word to Uzbekistan to say just a few words about the benefits of this motion, after this the word is free.
